St Ignatius Catholic School

Richard’s daughter, Abbey, attends St Ignatius Catholic School. In 2019, Year 5 & 6 students undertook a programme to develop their enterprise and financial capability skills by establishing mini companies. Parents from appropriate professions were asked to contribute their skills by spending time in the classroom, mentoring the students. Richard spend a day introducing students to the world of marketing. An outline of the programme follows:

Sell-E-Brate (‘E’ for Enterprise)

As part of the concept ‘Our World,’ Year 5 & 6 students are creating sustainable products and services, which will be shared with the rest of the children at our Sell-E-Brate market day.

Students have created CVs and applied for jobs in each company. To assist them in the process of establishing a company, designing a product, creating a marketing campaign and looking after a budget, several of our parents have come in to share their expertise about different roles in a business. Some parents are also acting as mentors by continuing to work alongside the companies during this process.

These parents have helped make this learning experience authentic and real for the children, so a big Kia ora to all from our year 5 and 6 learners!
